UPDATE: Burning carpet fire was arson
Another fire that broke out Monday night is No. 6 on the list of intentionally set fires around the neighborhood since summer.
It was around 11:30 p.m. when residents of an apartment building in the 13400 block of Greenwood Ave. N. found a rolled up piece of carpet on fire, leaning against a door.
Thankfully, the fire didn't spread and damage was limited.
Fire investigators have not officially given a cause or ruled the fire arson, but the fire is not too far away from five other fires that have been intentionally set since the summer.
The largest was Oct. 23 when an arsonist set fire to a coffee shop owned by the Taproot Theatre on N. 85th. The blaze also destroyed three restaurants, including the Pho Tic-Tac Restaurant and Szechuan Bistro.
Two other fires were set on Aug. 13 -- one at a mixed-use commercial/residential building on N. 98th, the other at a home on NW 84th. The day before, another fire had been set at a home in the 7700 block of Greenwood Ave. N. The string began June 19th with an arson in a vacant restaurant just 10 block away from the Aug. 12 fire.
